Shiozawa-juku flourished as a post town along the Mikuni Highway connecting Edo and Echigo, and developed as a production center for specialty textiles such as Echigo Jofu (Important Intangible Cultural Property) and Shiozawa Tsumugi (Traditional Craft). It is also known as one of the heaviest snowfall areas in the country. The current Shiozawa-juku Makino-dori street is a road improvement site.
